Mountain Ash, Russian

RUSSIAN MOUNTAIN ASH  Sorbus aucuparia var. rossica

• A hardy, upright form of European Mountain Ash selected from Russian seed sources for superior cold hardiness, drought tolerance, and a strong central leader, forming a tidy oval to pyramidal crown.
• Produces clusters of white spring blossoms that attract bees and other pollinators, followed by heavy crops of bright orange‑red berries that persist into fall and early winter, offering excellent ornamental and wildlife value.
• Fruit is technically edible and can be used for jellies or preserves, though it is primarily valued as a bird food source; fruit drop is moderate and generally manageable in most landscapes.
• More drought‑tolerant and urban‑tolerant than many Sorbus types, with good resistance to fire blight and fewer issues with suckering, making it a low‑maintenance choice for prairie yards and municipal plantings.
