Cherry, Nanking

NANKING CHERRY  Prunus tomentosa

• A hardy, fast‑growing deciduous shrub with a naturally rounded form and soft, fuzzy young twigs; widely planted across the Prairies for its reliability, beauty, and heavy fruiting.
• Produces masses of fragrant pale‑pink to white blossoms in early spring, creating a spectacular floral display and providing an abundant nectar source for bees and other early pollinators.
• Bears bright red, juicy cherries in mid‑summer; edible fresh and excellent for jams, jellies, sauces, and winemaking, with a sweet‑tart flavour that varies by plant.
• Thrives in well‑drained soils and tolerates drought once established; very cold‑hardy, productive, and easy to grow, making it a favourite for shelterbelts, orchards, and edible landscapes.
