BRISTLECONE PINE  Pinus aristata
• A slow‑growing, exceptionally long‑lived evergreen conifer known for its picturesque, irregular form and dense clusters of short, dark‑green needles marked with distinctive white resin flecks.
• Needles persist for many years, giving the tree a full, tufted appearance; bark becomes gnarled and rugged with age, creating dramatic character even in small landscapes.
• Produces small, rounded cones with bristle‑tipped scales—an iconic feature that gives the species its name.
• Native to the high‑elevation southern Rocky Mountains, where it endures intense sun, thin soils, and extreme drought; not native to Alberta but highly adaptable to prairie xeriscapes.
• Tolerant of poor, rocky, or alkaline soils and extremely drought‑resistant once established; an excellent choice for collectors of unique conifers or for low‑water landscapes.
• Full Sun
• Zone 3, 3–6 m Height × 2–4 m Width
