PEKING / HEDGE COTONEASTER  Cotoneaster acutifolius

• A hardy, upright deciduous shrub widely used across the Prairies for hedging, known for its dense branching, glossy dark green leaves, and excellent tolerance of pruning.
• Produces small pink‑tinged white flowers in late spring; not showy, but they provide nectar for bees and other small pollinators.
• Forms abundant black berries in late summer to fall; not considered edible for humans but highly attractive to birds and persistent into winter.
• Exceptionally adaptable, thriving in clay, loam, alkaline soils, and urban conditions; drought tolerant once established and very reliable as a shelterbelt or formal hedge.
