Cherry, Romeo

ROMEO CHERRY  Prunus × kerrasis ‘Romeo’

• A compact, prairie‑hardy sour cherry from the University of Saskatchewan breeding program, valued for its deep‑coloured fruit, rich flavour, and reliable cold‑climate performance.
• Forms a dense, rounded shrub with upright branching and dark green foliage that maintains a clean, uniform appearance throughout the growing season.
• Produces abundant white spring flowers, providing early‑season brightness and excellent forage for bees and other pollinators.
• Bears heavy crops of dark red to nearly black cherries with a balanced sweet‑tart flavour; excellent for fresh eating, baking, wine, and preserves.
• Fruit ripens mid‑ to late summer and holds well on the plant; fruit drop is moderate if unharvested, making placement important in high‑traffic areas.
• Prefers well‑drained soils and consistent moisture; tolerates short dry periods once established but does not qualify as drought tolerant.
• Full Sun
• Zone 2, 2–3 m Height × 1.5–2 m Width
