Plant Care
Below you will find simple care guides designed to help you care for your plants. If you need additional guidance, we are here to help and can be reached at info@wheatlandtrees.ca with any additional questions you may have.
Using Fertilizer
Fertilizer type is classified based on the nature of the nutrients that are present and is identified through the use of three numbers. These numbers represent the N-P-K ratio which we will explain below.

- Nitrogen (N) is responsible for growth of plant leaves.
- Phosphorous (P) is responsible for the growth of roots.
- Potassium (K) contributes to the formation of flowers, fruits and overall plant strength .
As each of these compounds provides different functions for the plant it can important to apply them at the appropriate time of year. For instance, in the Spring it is important to supply your trees/shrubs with Nitrogen for leaf growth and Phosphorous for root growth. Just as in the Fall it is important not to fertilize your trees/shrubs with Nitrogen (as this will stimulate new growth too close to winter) and instead use fertilizers with a higher Potassium (K) content.Â
